Authorities in Wisconsin say a woman arrested in an attempted backpacking trip to Alaska has been charged with felony animal cruelty.
Authorities say 35-year-old Heather Burchard of Elgin, Illinois, had been charged in a May 16 arrest warrant for “animal cruelty” after an animal rescue group reported finding her and another woman inside a bag that contained two packs of backpacking cooking supplies.
A search of the backpack yielded two bags full of food for two people, including one bag of hot dogs and one bag containing a hamburger, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Burchard was arrested and booked into the Elgin County Jail.
She was released on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29.
